Young musicians present an immersive musical journey through misty hills and icy peaks, combining original music with projected visuals.
The musicians of Middlesbrough Open Orchestra, together with music lead and composer Ben Hopkinson, have collaborated with Nottingham University and artist Layla Curtis on a research project, Digiscore.
The Digital Score project by Nottingham University investigates the technological transformation of the music score through computational technologies.
Digital Scores generate new musical experiences, innovative compositional approaches, novel performance opportunities, and broader accessibility for a vast number of musicians and music cultures around the world.
The young musicians will be performing their musical piece they have co-created in response to visuals created by artist Layla Curtis.
About Middlesbrough Open Orchestra
The Middlesbrough Open Orchestra provides students from local SEND schools the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and play together in an orchestra. Open Orchestras is a national programme that was set up to address the lack of ensemble musical provision in Special schools. It provides everything needed – instruments, repertoire and training – to empower Music Hubs, arts organisations and Special schools across the UK to set up and run their own orchestra sustainably. Middlesbrough Town Hall currently hosts the only Open Orchestra in the North of England.
