We are celebrating our 130th anniversary and we would like to invite you to a weekend full of celebrations.
You’ll find a range of community activities over the weekend of Friday 25th January – Saturday 26th January. With everything from laser light, community fairs and a grand finale of a free performance by local music legend Paul Smith (Maximo Park).
You will also be able to see a range of bands, music, and portraits, and of course there will be tea and cake!
Get involved – Fancy yourself in a top hat? How about a bustle and a bonnet? Join us as one of our Victorian volunteers, dressed up to the nines in Victorian costume, and be part of our big celebration weekend! There’s also tea, cake and a souvenir photo to take home.

Friday 25th January
Come and Play – Light up the Town Hall
5pm – 10pm – Award winning digital artist, Seb Lee Delisle will bring interactive Laser Light Synths that you can play bringing the Town Hall to life. Get involved, bring all your friends and see your very own laser show flooding the building with shimmering dancing lights.
Saturday 26th January
Get Papped – Recreation of opening ceremony
11am – 12pm – Help us recreate the original image of Town Hall opening ceremony and make history in being part of the crowd.
Be Part of the Community
1pm – 4pm – Julian Germain has taken over 30 photos of community groups in Middlesbrough. Come on down and meet the people in the photographs with demonstrations and plenty of family activities for all.
Tea & Cake
1pm – 4pm – Come and have a 130th themed cake, cup of tea and listen to Paul Smith DJ!
1.30pm – 2.15pm – Paul Smith will wow you hitting the decks with a DJ set like no other!
Contemporary Composer – 52 Songs
Felix Corbett was Middlesbrough’s first official organist. Come see the contemporary presentation of his works.
7.30pm – 9.15pm – Enjoy the grand finale watching Paul Smith. All you lucky ballot ticket winners will see the Maximo Park frontman perform songs from his recently released solo albums, Maximo Park and music inspired from artists who have played in the Town Hall over the past 130 years.
