Think opera is not for you? Give us an hour and we’ll change your mind.

Award-winning Streetwise Opera is back to remind us that opera is for everyone. This joyful and refreshing Opera Hour performance cuts through the stuffiness of traditional opera, to focus on the raw passion and larger than life feelings that can be found in everyday life.

Scenes from world-famous operas, including Puccini’s thrilling Tosca, Leoncavallo’s tragic Pagliacci, and Gilbert and Sullivan’s delightful H.M.S. Pinafore, are sung with spirit, boldness and fun by the performers of Streetwise Opera, an inspiring group of people who are or have been homeless, supported by professional musicians.

The Opera Hour includes the world-premiere of ‘After the Storm’, an opera piece by composer in residence Hayley Jenkins, created with participants in Streetwise Opera’s weekly workshops at Methodist Asylum Project and Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art.
