Royal Northern Sinfonia – Beethoven 2020: The Next Generation

Royal Northern Sinfonia – Beethoven 2020: The Next Generation

Thursday 4 June 2020 - Thursday 12 November 2020

In 2020 we will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth with performances of a Beethoven Symphony Cycle.

The project is entitled Beethoven 250: The Next Generation, and aims to elicit a contemporary response to both interpretation and relevance of these cornerstones of the repertoire by asking the next generation of conductors and composers: why is Beethoven still relevant today?

Surrounded by community and education work in each city, each instalment of the cycle will involve a performance of 2 Beethoven symphonies and a new Beethoven-themed commission (one of give award-winning pieces of our RNS Young Composers’ Competition)

Throughout the project we will be working with up and coming conductors across different nationalities, all under the age of 35. In addition to the musical interpretation and to respond directly to the core purpose of the project.
