Join our professional core choir and orchestra for the day to learn and play ‘Zadok the Priest’ and other music from royal ceremonies in this workshop day.
Zadok the Priest was written by George Frederick Handel for the coronation of King George II in 1727. This piece has been played at the coronation of every British monarch ever since.
In the workshop day we will also be learning the ‘Song for the Commonwealth’ which has been written for this historic occasion, and which will be performed by choirs and singers across the world on Thursday 2nd June at 9.45pm.
All abilities welcome to take part in this project – parts and arrangements are available for different levels of singing/playing ability. The emphasis is on coming together to celebrate this historic event and enjoy some of the music which has accompanied coronations of our time.
We are inviting you to perform the finished product of the workshop day as part of Jubilee weekend celebrations as follows:
Thursday 2nd June
11am on Exchange Square, Middlesbrough Town Centre
2pm on Centre Square as part of Orange Pip market
9.45pm, at the Cenotaph outside the Dorman Museum, Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, as part of the lighting of the beacon ceremonies taking place across the world.
Free of charge
Participants under the age of 18 are welcome to take part. We will have staff available on the workshop day to chaperone anyone under the age of 18.
